Dr Walter Fuhrer
Dr Walter Fuhrer has more than 25 years experience of research and operations in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery. After finishing his doctorate in organic chemistry at the ETH in Zürich in 1973, he joined Ciba-Geigy (later Novartis) where he occupied various positions in the research organization.
Among other assignments in Basle (CH) and Summit (US) he was head of Cardiovascular Chemistry and during this time was heavily involved in the discovery and development of Diovan®, a new blockbuster antihypertensive drug.
During the last five years before the merger with Sandoz he led the Central Research Laboratories of Ciba-Geigy. His final position after the merger was Head of Operations and Planning in Novartis Oncology Research. Dr Fuhrer is a Swiss national.
He is involved in portfolio management and in due diligence assignments.
